Water Treatment
The Water Treatment Group (WTG) provides a forum for member companies operating in the water treatment sector to discuss relevant regulatory issues, industry standards and codes of practice. The WTG also seeks to provide the industry with a focal point for dialogue on specific issues with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and other associations. Meetings of the WTG are held quarterly. Examples of the work of the WTG include the provision of significant input in the development of the HSE's Approved Code of Practice and Guidance document for the control of legionella bacteria in water systems (L8) and input to the International Standards Organisation (ISO) in the development of standards for the evaluation of cooling water inhibitors.
The WTG supports the work of the Legionella Control Association (LCA) (formerly named the Code of Conduct Association (CCA)), formed by BACS and the Water Management Society (WMS) in close consultation with the HSE, and provides six members of the LCA committee. The LCA provides the Code of Conduct for Service Providers, a voluntary scheme for companies involved in the supply of goods and services for the control of legionella bacteria in water systems.
Through BACS membership of the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG), member companies are able to subscribe to participate in the work of this organisation, which carries out research projects on topics relating to pools.
In addition to these activities, the WTG organises occasional conferences on topical subjects, often jointly with other associations such as the WMS. Conferences are held at various venues and a charge is made for attendance. Conferences are open to companies that are not members of BACS but at a charge that is higher than the members' rate.
