COSRAM

The Personal Care and Cosmetic Ingredients Sector Group COSRAM (COSmetic RAw Materials) provides a forum for member companies supplying ingredients to the cosmetics industry to keep abreast of relevant regulatory issues.

The COSRAM Committee meets from time to time to consider regulatory issues and, when appropriate, to formulate positions for lobbying in the UK or at the European level through the European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients (EFfCI), of which BACS is a member. Members of the COSRAM Committee also participate in the work of the EFfCI Regulatory Affairs and Product Safety Committee (RAPS). EFfCI membership provides COSRAM members with a UK voice on issues and information on legislative developments and lobbying work with the European institutions, including the Commission. COSRAM also works with other associations, such as the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association (CTPA) and the Society of Cosmetic Scientists (SCS), on issues of common interest.

COSRAM members fund membership of EFfCI by subscriptions for membership of the sector group.

In addition to these activities, the COSRAM Committee also organises jointly with SCS one day meetings, in the form of seminars with presentations, on topics of interest to the personal care and cosmetic ingredients sector. At each meeting several speakers from industry, government or academia give presentations on subjects such as new ingredients, developments in technology and applications and relevant regulatory issues, dependent on the theme of the meeting. Themes of meetings are varied. However, the themes of recent meetings on "The Control of Rheology in Personal Care Products" and "Biocidal Products for the Preservation of Cosmetic Ingredients and Formulations" give an indication of the range of subjects of interest which are covered.

Meetings are held at various venues, normally in the North of England, and a charge is made for attendance. Meetings are open to companies that are not members of BACS but at a charge that is higher than the members' rate. Presentations are provided on CD ROM to delegates after each meeting and are also available at a charge to companies not able to attend.
