About BACS
BACS aims to represent and promote the interests of its members through engagement on issues in the UK with Government, the regulators and other stakeholders, and through European representation. BACS provides its members with information and guidance on UK and EU health, safety and environmental legislation and policies, and provides opportunities for regulatory issues to be discussed and for best practice to be promoted through various committees and sector groups. To help member companies with the implementation of REACH, in addition to organising conferences on the regulation, BACS operates an e-mail system for members' enquiries. BACS is also a member of a European Commission funded collaborative project: 'Toolbox to Support Environmental and Sustainable Systems' (TESS). This project has recently produced an online 'Toolbox' to help companies with REACH compliance. More information is available to members here.
The work of BACS is carried out by member companies' representatives in committees and sector groups, and task forces when appropriate, supported by a professional secretariat.
Membership is open to companies operating in the speciality and performance chemicals sector of the chemical supply chain. Membership subscriptions are based on sales turnover associated with the sector.
BACS is active in the promotion of sustainability in the chemical industry through the work of the Public Procurement Task Force on Guidance for Sustainable Cleaning and through membership, along with other trade associations, of the chemical supply chain sustainable consumption and production high level group.
More detail on the operation and activities of the Association is provided on other pages of this website.
